A description and cause appears for each message along with a suggestion on how to correct the issue. Some of the messages are warnings only and will not prevent you from carrying out the requested action. Other messages may require that you correct an item before proceeding with the requested action.

Message Cause Solution

<Earning Name> An Earning item must be created before creating <Accumulator> This message occurs when you attempt to calculate a payroll, but have disabled the earning that is associated with the listed accumulator. To correct this, ensure that all earnings and their associated accumulators are active prior to calculating the payroll.
<Earning Name> An Earning item must be created before creating <Earning Name> This message occurs when you are importing an employee with a template that contains an earning that is set to "As rate of", but the earning on which it is based is not included. To correct this, ensure that the base earning (on which the "As rate of" earnings are based) is included in the employee template(s) that are included in your import fle.
<nnn> must be a number consisting of one or more digits This message occurs when you enter a non-numerical value (decimal, slash, period, etc.) into a cell that requires a numerical value only. To correct this, only use numerical values when assigning a number in these types of cells.
Access violation! Missing privileges to view this information! This message occurs when you attempt to view an item for which you have not been assigned the necessary user privileges. To correct this, please check with your payroll administrator to ensure that your user account has been assigned the appropriate viewing/editing privileges.
AdjustLeadingZero fail to format str: ##### ### ####### longer than allowed length: 5 Generate report test failed. This message occurs when you choose the Test button for the Generate EFTs report, but one or more employee bank accounts are separated by spaces instead of hypens. To correct this, open the Employee - Bank Accounts screen and replace all spaces with hypens.
An empty document was generated, please check your parameters. If you believe that this report should contain information, please contact your administrator. This message occurs when you generate a report, but the resulting report does not contain any data. To correct this, review your payroll data and settings to ensure that the report contains valid data on which to base the report.
An Earning Item must be created before creating This message occurs when you are attempting to apply the Rate of Earning setting when the base earning does not exist (i.e. the earning rate must be based on an existing earning). To correct this, go the Current Payroll - Earnings screen and ensure that a valid earning exists.
Bad email address: This message occurs when you have entered an email address that does not conform to the required format. To correct this, you must enter the email address in the required format. Valid email addresses, such as john.smith@example.com are made up of the name, followed by the @ symbol, followed by a domain. The domain part is not case-sensitive, but the name portion may be, depending on the persons email server settings. Underscores and hyphens are permitted, but other special characters (e.g. #, $, !, quotes and spaces) are not. This message appears on the User - Options page.
Calculation error! Net amount "nnn" exceeds Controls Max Net Amount "nnn". This message occurs when you calculate a payroll where a pre-defined maximum amount for a single cheque or EFT has been breached. This may be due to a mistyped character/value or other data entry error. To correct this, carefully review the employee's work hours and/or other data and update the offending item as needed. This message appears on the Payroll Processing - Calculations page.
Calculation for pay date <d/mm/yyyy> can not be performed at this time. The system does not have calculation parameters for this pay date. This message occurs when you attempt to calculate a payroll with a Pay Date that either falls into the latter half of the year (after July 1st), or into the following year, but eNETEmployer has not yet updated the tax settings for that period. To correct this, you must wait to perform your payroll calculation until eNETEmployer has been updated with the tax settings for either the latter half of the year, or the subsequent year. Tax updates are typically applied to the sysem in mid-June (for pay dates after July 1st), or mid-December (for pay dates after Jan. 1st of the following year).
Cannot close the pay - new transactions exist - please recalculate before closing the pay. This message occurs when you attempt to close a pay where uncalculated transactions exist. To correct this, you must first calculate the pay and verify the results accordingly using the Pay Register report. This message appears on the Payroll Processing - Calculations page.
Cannot delete <item> - first item should be deleted last! This message occurs when you are attempting to remove the top (Primary) row of a group that contains one of more sub-rows. Primary rows are designate by the color Green, and are always visible even when the row is collapsed. Primary cannot be deleted if there is another item of the same type (e.g. you cannot delete a primary Earning or Deduction row if a second instance of the same item exists in the list). To correct this, delete the associated sub rows before deleting the primary row.
Cannot delete a pay-sequence that was closed after: <date> - use Un-close first. This message occurs when you attempt to delete a pay sequence that is closed. To correct this, use the Unclose button to reopen the payroll, and then delete it.
Cannot delete "Full Rate" Account! This message occurs when you are attempting to remove the Full Rate Business Number row. This row cannot be removed once it has been created. There is no valid reason to delete the row since all of the cells can simply be edited as needed (rather than attempting to remove the row altogether). This message appears on the Current Payroll - Business Accounts screen.
Cannot delete "nnn". It is referenced by the following: This error message occurs when you attempt to delete an item that is linked to another item in the program. For example, If you created an earning and then applied it to an employee, the program would display the error if you attempted to remove the earning (e.g. it cannot be removed because an employee is using it in their calculations). To correct this, edit the payroll item to which the offending item is linked and remove it so that it is no longer used (referenced) by any other item.

For example, if you are trying to delete a pay sequence that is linked to one or more reports, you can either 1) Make any simple data change that causes the Payroll Processing - Calculations screen's Calculate button to switch to Red (indicating that it is no longer the last "calculated" sequence), or, 2) Open the Payroll Processing - Reports screen and edit all of the pay sequences in the Payroll column to refer to an earlier sequence than that of the one you are trying to delete.

Cannot delete "nnn" - Year to date exist. This error message occurs when you attempt to delete an item that has associated year-to-date values. For example, if you have calculated and closed a payroll where one or more employees earned income for an earning entitled "Regular", the earning record will now have associated YTD values. You cannot delete payroll items that have associated YTD values. The applies to earnings, deductions and benefits, and accumulators.
Cannot delete the default distribution. This error message occurs when you attempt to delete the default distribution. This is not permitted because the program requires at least one distribution record at all times in order to record transactions and to create journal entry items. Since you are not permitted to delete the default distribution record, there is no action to be taken. If you do not want to use the current distribution record for some reason (i.e. it contains distribution codes and/or descriptions that are no longer applicable to the current payroll), then consider adding a new distribution record, and then set the new one as the default. You can also edit the orignal distribution record to conform to your current payroll needs.

Cannot save user: <user@companyname> Password must be set! This error message occurs when you insert a new user in the Admin - Users screen, and then attempt to delete it before it has been saved for the first time. To correct this, save the new user, and then retry the Delete function.
Duplicate symbol "nnn" This message occurs when you attempt to Save or Test a function when your Values column contains one or more symbols of the same character. To correct this, carefully review the Values for the Function row and ensure that each one is unique (and are represented correctly in the Expression cell). This message appears on the Current Payroll - Functions page.
Employee <number>: <name> already has an <item>, use Add <Item> to add more items. This message occurs in two scenarios: 1) When you choose the New button above the table (beside a drop down list that contains a given employee's name) on a screen where the same employee already appears in the table, or 2) When you attempt to use the import feature to add a new row (by including a "-1" in the id column), but the current screen does not support this feature. 1) For scenario 1, the New button should not be used because the employee already exists in the table. You must use the Add <Item> button if you wish to add another item to the employee. 2) In scenario 2, this screen does not support the creation of new rows during the import process (as do a number of other program screens). Again, you must use the Add <Item> button if you wish to add another item to the employee.
Employee with SIN: nnnnnnnnn" already exists. This message occurs when you try to save an employee but their SIN matches that of another employee who already exists in the Employee Database. This typically happens when you are trying to add a new employee in the Employee - Setup Employee screen, but they were already added in the past and have been either deleted, or are terminated, on leave, etc. (employees only appear in program screens if they have an "Active" status). The solution depends on your situation: a) If you are trying to enter a new employee and they are not currently in your employee database (i.e. they have never been added in the past), then ensure that their SIN is unique and does not match any other employee in your Employee Database, or, b) if you are trying to add an employee who already exists in the Employee Database, then delete the employee you are trying to add and reactivate the existing employee by changing their status to "Active", (note that you may need to "Undelete" them first if they have been deleted).
eNETEmployer is not available at the moment. Please try again later. This message occurs when the program cannot process the current user's login information. This may occur if the program is momentarily down for maintenance or for system-wide updates. In rare cases, it may occur when internet traffic is limited or reduced. To correct this, simply retry the action. If this error persists, please contact eNETEmployer Services.
Failed to find a row with id -1 ! ignoring row <n>, <name>, <earning code>, etc. This message occurs when you attempt to use the import feature to add a new row (by including a "-1" in the id column), but the current screen does not support this feature. The correct this, you must use either the New button that appears above the table, or the Add <Item> button that appears on a given employee's row.
Failed to load current user's options. This message occurs when the program cannot load the current user's options from the payroll database. This is rare and may occur when internet traffic is limited or reduced. To correct this, simply retry the action. If this error persists, please contact eNETEmployer Services.
File Name: <name-size-content type:application.type>: This message is informational in nature, and occurs when you add a document to any one of the eNETEmployer program screen that support the document storage feature. Since the message is simply reporting on the document name, size and type, no action needs to be taken.
First pay calculation of the year: 'nnnn'! Must clear YTD Balance - please check 'Clear YTD Balance' option. This message occurs when you attempt calculate the first pay sequence of a new year, but have not set the Clear YTD Balance checkbox to Yes. eNETEmployer requires that year-to-date balances be cleared before the first pay of a new year is calculated. To correct this, place a check in the Clear YTD Balance checkbox and retry the calculation. Note: This check box is to be used only when you run the first pay of a new year. If you attempt to check this check box for any other pay run, the calculation will fail. This message appears on the Payroll Processing - Calculations page.
Generate report test failed. This message occurs in the Print Year-End Forms screen when you click the Test button for a report, but have not yet generated any T4s or T4As. To correct this, ensure that you have generated your T4s or T4As before you attempt to test the report..
Import Failed! null This message occurs when importing a file that is not saved in the .CSV format (.CSV is the only supported import format). To correct this, ensure that the import file is saved in a comma-separated (.CSV) format.
Import failed! Row number <nnn>: Employee# <nnn> - earning# <nnn> is missing. This message occurs when importing hours into the Employee - Earning Items screen, but one or more employees has not been assigned an earning that appears in the import file. This can occur when you assign an earning to an employee in your third party program, and export their work hours, but the corresponding earning has not yet been assigned to the employee in eNETEmployer.
To correct this: a) assign the missing earning to the employee(s) to your payroll and then import the file once again, or, b) assign the missing earning to the employee(s), and then use the import file as a reference to manually enter the data that was missed during the initial import procedure.
Import failed to find header index for id-column: <column name> This message occurs when you are using the "Extended" import format method, but the file is not formatted correctly. This could be for a number of reasons: missing identifiers, missing column headers, mistyped information, incorrect case on the identifiers vs. the column headers, etc. To correct this, ensure that the import file contains the correct formatting, spelling, identifiers, and column headers etc.
Import failed to find a suitable table row for id-column: Employee No.; value: nnn; import row: nnn This message occurs when importing a file using the extended import format method, where import file contains valid data, but the payroll does not have a matching employee. This can occur when you add an employee to your third party program and export their work hours, but the corresponding employee has not yet been added to your payroll in eNETEmployer. To correct this: a) add the missing employee(s) to your payroll and then import the file once again, or, b) add the missing employee(s), and then use the import file as a reference to manually enter the data that was missed during the initial import procedure.
Incorrect password. This message occurs in the User - Passwords screen when you try to save/confirm a new password, but the password in the Current Password field is incorrect. To correct this, enter the correct current password in the Current Password field before trying to save/confirm a new password.
Incorrect username/password combination This message occurs when you are attempting to log in to the program, but are not entering a valid User Name, Password, or a combination of both. To correct this, please review the credentials you are using to log in, and then retry the action. If you believe that you have the correct login credentials and the error persists, please use the Password Reset link to reset your password. If this is unsuccessful, please contact your payroll administrator to ensure that your User Name is valid and/or has not been changed. This message appears on the Login page.
Invalid expression This message occurs when the program cannot correctly compute the function's expression. This could be due to a missing/mistyped variable, item, symbol or value. To correct this, carefully review the expression and its related items, and then update the offending item as needed. This message appears on the Current Payroll - Functions page.
Invalid file type This message occurs when you attempt to upload a logo or banner image type that is not currently supported by the program. To correct this, please try the upload again using one of the supported file types (JPEG, PJPEG, GIF, PNG, or X-PNG.).
Invalid Number This message occurs when you enter a number that does not conform to the required format for its respective cell. The most common errors of this nature include the Business Number cell (in the Current Payroll - Business Numbers screen), and the SIN cell (in any of the Employee Setup screens). To correct this, you must enter a number that conforms to the required format in the cell. For example, if you are working with the Business Number cell, the number must consist of nine digits and must pass a CRC check upon saving the cell. The same rule applies if you are working with the SIN cell for an employee.

This message occurs when you have not entered an email address in the User - Options screen. eNETEmployer requires a valid email in order to send email notifications and password reset information. An email address is also required if you wish to receive an emailed copy of any messages that are sent to your Inbox screen using the Messaging feature (this can be useful if you wish to receive internal Messaging correspondence while you are not logged into the eNETEmployer program). To correct this, enter a valid email address. To correct this, enter a valid email address in the User - Options screen.

To correct this, enter a valid email address for the employee in the Employee - Setup Employee screen.
Multiple earnings of the same code: <Earning Name>, assigned to employee: <Employee Name> Please use 'Earning-Items' page to enter hours. This message is displayed in the Payroll Processing - Speedy Update screen whenever one or more employees have a Temporary earning assigned, and the earning on which it is based is also being calculated for the period (i.e. the temporary earning does not have the Override option checked). No correction is required as it is only a notice that you need to use the Employee - Earning Items screen to edit the hours (since the Payroll Processing - Speedy Update screen only allows you to a single occurence of any given earning).
New row is not supported for: <nnn>. This message occurs when you attempt to use the import feature to add a new row (by including a "-1" in the id column), but the current screen does not support this feature. You must use the New button to add a row to the table.
